Atom, ION and Blu-ray into a vase ???

What a weird news, but guess what that came out on Computex 2009, see this picture below.

imagecan you guess, what is in that picture?

Well maybe you can guess from the title above, yes you right. PC but looks like a vase, wow. But That is really more of what we'd expect out of some slightly deranged basement hacker, not a company like ECS at a major tradeshow, but we'll take any entrants in the burgeoning "nettop in a vase" space we can get. To be serious for a moment, this PC is actually a pretty interesting illustration of the future afforded by small, low-power components: ECS has stuffed a full Intel Atom 230 system, including NVIDA ION graphics, 1GB of RAM, a 2.5-inch HDD and a Blu-ray drive into what looks like a family heirloom. There's even room for a couple USB ports, Ethernet and HDMI plugs on the bottom, which keeps the main body uninterrupted other than the tray-loading drive. Basically, we're floored. Interesting huh?

Microsoft Zune HD

image

At the D: All Things Digital (D7) conference, or summit (whichever you prefer), Microsoft finally unveiled its new touchscreen music player, the ZuneHD. As hands-on previews come online, we get a sense of what Microsoft’s going for in this generation of the device.

At first glance, you’ll notice that the ZuneHD has an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display. This paper-thin display is some of the newest technology recently featured at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), back in January. In addition the ZuneHD features built-in WiFi, an accelerometer, full HD output (yum!), Internet Explorer for full internet browsing, an built-in HD radio receivier and more. Microsoft was sure to jump on the App Store bandwagon and create its own application storefront called Marketplace. Oh, and lets not forget that the ZuneHD will hook up to “Xbox LIVE to create a game-changing entertainment experience.”

And lets be clear, the ZuneHD is ultra-sexy. Gizmodo even went on to say that “the device is tighter and more physically beautiful than the iPod Touch and it’s got a better UI [...].” The animations and transitions are beautiful. I’m even digging it’s super contemporary, and rather simple, interface. Hit up the read button for a brief hands-on video of some guys fondling Microsoft’s prototype.

image

The OLED screen boasts a resolution of 480×272 and is in a 16:9 widescreen format. It allows the users to comfortably flip through music, moves and other content and also offers a much better viewing experience on the go. The Zune HD also allows you to playback supported HD video files direct to an HD TV in 720p with the help of a premium HDMI audiovisual docking station which is sold separately.

The Zune HD has a built-in HD radio receiver which allows the user to tune in radio with quality that is much better than traditional radio quality. You get additional songs and artist data broadcast and also additional HD radio channels such as HD2 and HD3 for additional programming.

Sony's PSP Go leaks out before E3, is obviously a go

image

That's the future of Sony's hopes and dreams in the handheld gaming sector. With just hours to go before the company's official E3 2009 press event, it looks like the pieces are all coming together. First a UMD-less game release, then a highly credible mole giving the PSP Go a name, and now -- live action shots. The images here were sourced from an obviously slipped June 2009 Qore video, and aside from giving us a look at the slider-based system (which, let's be honest, looks a ton like the questionably successful mylo), we're also told that it'll tout 16GB of internal memory, built-in Bluetooth and an undisclosed memory slot. If all goes well, it'll ship this Fall for a price to be determined, and it's actually not slated to replace the PSP-3000, as both of 'em will attempt to live on store shelves harmoniously... at least for awhile. Oh, and don't worry -- we'll be on hand in LA to bring you all the impressions we can muster early next week.

Spec :

  • 3.8-inch display (resolution is undisclosed)
  • 43 percent lighter than the PSP-3000
  • 16GB of Flash storage
  • Bluetooth built-in; supports handset tethering and BT headsets
  • No UMD drive
  • Memory Stick Micro slot
  • New Gran Turismo, Little Big Planet and new Metal Gear Solid (!) on the way
  • Full PlayStation Network support (movie and TV rentals / purchases)
  • Integration with PlayStation 3 (works the same as the PSP-3000 does)
  • Sony views each of its products as "10-year lifecycle products, " so the PSP "needs to live on.”

Snapdragon Netbook

image

It’s an update from Computex 2009 in China. On a press conference, Qualcomm just announced Snapdragon, a netbook to compete with Wintel. From the press conference they said that Snapdragon netbook is light, thin, cool and energy-efficient – most engineering samples displayed in this conference are light as feather with no heat exhaust outlet.

No specifications available on these machines (naturally, most likely to be different, if made to general market), however from form factor alone, ARM netbook is something to look forward to. Continue below for more photos.

Got a touch of Vaio P feeling to it. The small square below the space bar is a optic-sensing trackball.
